The National Pork Producers’ comparison chart now names pork tenderloin as one of the leanest meats available next to chicken breast. This is due to advances in feeding and breeding techniques. Pork tenderloin is part of the loin and is normally sold in sets of two. Because it has very little fat, just a little pork tenderloin can go a long way.

Although pork tenderloin tastes very different from beef tenderloin it offers many of the same desirable qualities. Pork tenderloin is deliciously tender and makes a great family meal. The average tenderloin is only one and a half pounds and can feed 4 people with leftovers. Unlike beef tenderloin there is very little fat on pork tenderloin which makes it very easy and quick to prepare. It is also much cheaper than beef tenderloin and good for any occasion.

Premium grade pork tenderloin has a delicate flavor with a mild character that goes perfectly with a wide assortment of flavors including; fruit, and eastern Asian seasonings. Many grocery stores sell it pre-marinated in some sort of mass produced glaze that is very unpleasant in my opinion. It’s best to buy it plain and season it with flavors that are desirable to your personal palate rather than risking the mystery sauce.

I highly recommend foregoing grocery store meat altogether and buying direct from the source online. There are several advantages to buying all sorts of gourmet meats online including freshness, quality, selection, pre- preparation and convenience. When you order your pork tenderloin online it will be delivered direct from the source in a temperature controlled box with an ice pack to keep it fresh.

The quality of pork tenderloin bought online from a gourmet supplier is of the highest grade because the consumer can not physically check the quality and they want to make sure you are 100% satisfied and order again and again. Also, dealing directly with the consumer is a great situation for online suppliers simply because they make more money since they don’t have to pay the distributor or stores.

Ordering online also opens up a great selection of pork from gourmet meat suppliers all over the country. Whereas in a local store you are usually limited to meat produced in your immediate area.

Pork tenderloin roasts bought from online gourmet pork suppliers comes to your door ready to cook. If you buy it from a local store it usually comes with “silver skin”, which is very tedious to remove and very tough when cooked. On the other hand when you buy online the roast will be pre-trimmed and ready to cook

To top it all off shopping online is very convenient. You simply choose one of several reputable gourmet meat suppliers online and place your order. You can even choose the delivery time to coincide when you plan to eat it within 24 hours. Be sure to note the delivery date of your pork tenderloin to make sure you are home when it is delivered.

Pork tenderloin is very easy to prepare and can be cooked in a wide variety of ways including stuffed, pan seared, grilled, roasted and so on. Because pork tenderloin is so low in fat it cooks very quickly and the main thing to remember is not to overcook them.

It’s always best to use a meat thermometer to check doneness as cutting it to check the color will allow the flavorful juices to drain and dry them out. When the internal temperature of the thickest part of a tenderloin hits 160 that means it is done.

A simple search on google will yield hundreds of delicious pork tenderloin recipes and I suggest trying a new one each time you prepare pork. You are sure to find favorites you want to cook again and again, but don’t settle for just one as pork tenderloin is delightful when cooked in a myriad of ways. Also, when you buy online, most gourmet pork suppliers will include a preparation guide that includes a cookbook.

Pork tenderloin is not only a healthy choice over most other meats it is also tasty and very easy to prepare. Once you’ve tried it once it will surely become a regular part of your diet. Enjoy!
